Behind The Buy 2026

Behind The Buy 2026

I've just returned from Paris market, where I spent the week walking into showrooms in the middle of a severe heatwave, looking far less glamorous than I'd hoped. Thankfully, everyone was in the same boat, sweaty and pretending otherwise!

The fashion market isn't always as glamorous as some think, so I thought I'd share a little insight into behind the buy. What I do, how we do it and more. Call it a little behind the scenes.

Firstly, I'm not buying for this season. Or the next one. I'm buying ranges and collections 6, 8, sometimes 12 months ahead of time. I'm sitting in a room on the other side of the world deciding what you're going to want to wear a year from now. Before the trends exist, before anyone's written about it, before you've even thought about it.

And it isn't as simple as buying what I love, as much as I'd like it to be. Before I walk into a showroom I know exactly what's already been ordered. What's landing in months to come. What I committed to six months ago. Where the gaps are, what I'm missing and what I've already got four of.

There's no point falling for a beautiful coat if I've already bought three of them in another room, in another city, six months ago.

It's all about finding the right mix.

There's always one, though. The brand I wasn't leaving without. This trip it was Lizzie Fortunato. Two sisters, handmade in New York, and a real sense of play. Jewellery that does the work of an outfit on its own. We can't wait to weave this into our brand mix.

I saw the collection on the display and had three of you in my head before I'd even touched it.

It lands in a few months, and before it goes out on the floor I'd love to give you first look.
